Steve Paul-Ambrose's young life is still in progress - still a college student and barely an adult - but his poker career is already well underway. As a younger boy, he was taught to play cards by his brother and uncle, though concentration on studies was always foremost in his life. After high school, Steve attended Canada's University at Waterloo to focus on economics and chemistry, where he is now close to graduation.
Steve's family has always supported his interests, and when they saw his knack for poker and knew that there was potential for him to do well, they staked him to play some cash games in a local casino. He began at the $1-$2 level and quickly worked his way up in limits. By the time he was of legal age to compete at one of the World Poker Tour events, he and his supporters felt he was ready.
It was at the PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure in the fourth season of the World Poker Tour that Steve was meant to shine. He entered the tournament and won the entire main event to the tune of over $1.3 million. While stunned and excited, with his proud family at his side, he knew that this was money to be saved, not taken on the road to become a poker pro. He returned to Canada to finish school, though during breaks he continues to show up at major tournaments to push for another title. He has placed in the money in two subsequent WPT events and one WSOP event, and by the time he graduates from college, the poker world may not know what hit it.
