Steven Frederick was born in England, where his father, an Air Force officer, was stationed. Growing up overseas, then moving back to the U.S., Frederick ended up going to school in Chicago, where he stayed for nearly 20 years. His early years as a citizen of the world may have helped prepare him for his day job after his education, as a bond trader on the Chicago Stock Exchange. He managed to succeed at this risk-prone, demanding occupation for 16 years, and this was the foundation of his success at tournament poker. Now living in San Mateo, California, where he's been for the last five years, Frederick considers himself a "semi-professional" player. He's been playing tournaments ever since watching Mike and Vince in the first season of the WPT, and saying to himself "I can do that!" Starting out in local tournaments and tasting early success, he quickly graduated to bigger events, culminating in his first win, the 2006 Bellagio 5 Diamond $1000 event, which netted him over $60,000. With his background as a trader and competitive swimmer, Frederick is now looking forward to focusing in on poker for a while. With his final table appearance at the Season 5 Mirage World Poker Open, this likeable, easy going Californian will have the chips to do so.
