Stuart Paterson was born in the Bahamas, but eventually found himself living in Boca Raton, Florida and leading a normal teenager's life. At age 17, however, a car accident left him partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair. Paterson was adamant, though, that the accident would not keep him from a successful future. He went to college, earned a business degree, and started finding a place in the world of gambling. Paterson started his gambling career as a sports bettor and found much success in the early going. With enough winnings to try something new, Paterson started playing around in the world of online poker. His first foray into that realm did not go so well. Early losses led young man from Florida to start calling himself "the donator." Eventually, the nickname would become ironic. Paterson started winning online and developing a following in the poker world. Professional players Josh Arieh and Michael Mizrachi took Paterson under their wing and, before long, the live poker world started to hear about the guy everybody called "the donator." Although he was already well-known online, Paterson made his first big splash online at the WPT Borgata Winter Classic in 2006. His sixth place finish earned him more than $100,000. Since then, Paterson has cashed in more WPT and World Series events, including a final table appearance at a World Series Omaha Hi-Lo event, Paterson's favorite game. Paterson has more than $200,000 in live tournament winnings to match the untold fortune he has won online. Paterson has said he hopes to move into the business world after a few more years of playing poker.
