Poker is a lot like life in many ways, chiefly, that success is all about making the right decisions. Tim Lark knows all about that. Early in life, starting at the age of fourteen, Lark was fascinated by poker. He fell into a basement game with a bunch of older guys. Before long, Lark was a little older and playing three or four nights a week in a serious home game. Lark did well and started toying with the idea of becoming a professional poker player. After all, he'd been playing for most of his life and was doing well. Then it came time for Lark to make one of those life decisions. Was he going to play poker for a living or follow a more traditional (and some would say safer) lifestyle of having a wife and family? Lark made the easy decision and never regretted it. Poker took a back seat and Lark settled into a happy family life. He worked, supported his family, and didn't think much about poker life. Then, one day at work, a colleague told Lark about how he could play online. Suddenly, Lark realized he could both play poker and spend as much time with his family. It worked out. Playing online, Lark parlayed a $1 satellite into an entry and final table at the very first World Poker Tour Party Poker Million. He placed fifth and won more than $50,000. That event didn't turn into a professional career, but it did prove that in a life full of choices, sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too.
