Todd Phillips was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He attended NYU film school but dropped out before graduation, choosing instead to begin working on his own documentary film. Finding some early success in the entertainment business and developing a special fondness for documentaries, he later founded the New York Underground Film Festival.

Upon moving to Los Angeles, Todd worked hard to become a successful filmmaker and is now credited with being an Academy Award nominated writer and director. He has written and directed such immensely popular films as "Old School," "Starsky and Hutch," and "Road Trip." And like so many in Hollywood, during some rare down time, he found a home poker game through some friends. After only three years of playing in a non-casino environment, he decided to try his luck at a major poker tournament.

In Todd's first ever live tournament, he chose a World Poker Tour event - the 2005 Legends of Poker main event. He bought in for $10,000 and it turned out to be a wise investment as he landed at the final table, finishing in fifth place for $250,200. He has grown so fond of tournament poker that he can be seen at numerous stops on the tournament circuit now. In 2007, he played several events at the World Series of Poker and cashed in the world championship main event. When Hollywood doesn't have Todd working long hours, he will likely be found at a poker table somewhere.
