A few years ago, Victor Ramdin didn't play poker. Instead, he sat in a bar and watched his friends play. It was 2002 before the man from the Bronx decided to take up poker as a pastime. With a few small businesses and a little bit of real estate to pay the bills, the South American native learned poker from his buddies. Before he knew it, people were calling him a poker professional. He's still not sure why.

"Everybody seemed to call me a pro, but I would say I'm a semi-pro," Ramdin said. "Hopefully someday I will become a pro."

That statement may be a bit of false modesty on Ramdin's part, because even if he doesn't carry the title of a pro, he certainly plays like one. With a wife and two kids to support, Ramdin has started shocking the poker world with his abilities. Still, Ramdin thinks if people knew the real Victor Ramdin, they would be even more surprised.

When he's not tending to his family, businesses, and poker life, Ramdin travels to his native Guyana with a team of other philanthropic poker players to do charity work.

"We put together a team of doctors from the U.S. who dedicate their time for free. We go to our country and we serve the poor," Ramdin said.

For more than six years, Ramdin and the team of poker charity workers helped children in South America receive much-needed surgeries. Now, when Ramdin puts together a good tournament win, he finds a way to help a long list of kids in South America
