Is it Ladies Night at the World Poker Final at Foxwood's Resort Casino? Frequent WPT table finalist Kathy Liebert and tournament veteran Mimi Tran have come looking to score the first World Poker Tour title for a woman. Semi-pro Michael "Chuckles" Omelchuk is severely short-stacked, as is amateur Mike Perry. But the surprising success story of the event is another amateur, chip leader EG Harvin, who brings almost twice as many chips as any of the top-ranked players. Former basketball player and cash game genius, Nenad Medic brings more bounce to the ounce as he towers over the table with his healthy stack.
Seat 1: Michael "Chuckles" Omelchuk - 533,000
Seat 2: Kathy Liebert – 2,500,000
Seat 3: Ezra "EG" Harvin – 4,680,000
Seat 4: Mimi Tran – 2,519,000
Seat 5: Mike Perry - 682,000
Seat 6: Nenad "The Serb" Medic – 1,281,000
The action starts on the final table with blinds of 15,000 and 30,000 and chip leader EG Harvin limping in with a pair of sitting ducks, 2h-2d. Mimi gets out of the way and electrician Mike Perry finds himself staring at a pair of wired kings Ks-Kc. Perry decides to charge the other amateur for a flop and raises 120,000. The field quickly gets out of the way and EG Harvin asks how much Mike has in chips. Deciding he can afford it, Harvin puts Perry all in for his remaining 562,000. After quick reflection, Perry makes the call. The flop comes 3h-Kh-Ah and Mike Perry throws his arms in the air in elation only to have it dawn on him that EG now has a four flush due to the three hearts on the board! The turn is 8d and Mike cajoles the dealer for a black card. The river is 10h and Mike Perry looks sick and shocked, busting out in 6th place for $200,340.
From the cut off Kathy raises 127,000 holding suited connectors 4h-5h. EG Harvin looks down at Ah-Jh and counts out 127,000 and says, "I'll tell you what. I'm going to call you and I'm going to make it another 400,000." Kathy immediately blocks the string raise and tells the amateur, "You can't do that." The tournament director determines EG's binding action is a call. The other players fold, Nenad joking, "I'm going to fold this, and I'm going to fold." The flop reveals 10h-Js-Kh giving EG a pair and a royal flush draw. EG bets 400,000 and chats up Kathy who calls while EG claps for her. They both check the 2h that comes on the turn that gives EG the win. Kathy bets 1,000,000 on her flush and EG announces he's all in with Kathy immediately calling. They flip their cards and Kathy Liebert leaves the table in 5th place, taking $257,579 with her.
EG looks down at Qh-Jh and limps in for 30,000. From the small blind, Nenad Medic calls with Qd-4d and Michael Omelchuk checks his big blind with a Js-9d. The next three 6h-Jc-10c gives Chuckles and EG the top pair, but Omelchuk doesn't know he's out kicked. EG leads out with a 125,000 dollar bet. Nenad "The Serb" Medic quickly folds and Michael "Chuckles" Omelchuk announces all in. Harvin makes the call and Chuckles realizes that Harvin's high card is no laughing matter. The turn brings the 10d and the river carries the 5c. EG has eliminated his third player and Michael Omelchuk gives him a weak smile as he takes $343,439 for 4th place.
Nenad folds his Kh-7s, EG Harvin limps in with Ad-9s and big blind Mimi Tran checks her Qc-Jd. Out comes 6s-Qd-2h and Mimi bets 100,000 which Harvin calls. The turn card pairs up Harvin with an As and he checks, Mimi bets 200,000 and Harvin goes all in for 685,000 with Mimi automatically calling her table nemesis. The Kc on the river knocks her out of the tournament in 3rd place for $472,228.
EG demolished four players to get to Medic in head's up play, but he may need a doctor once this professional player is done dissecting him! Holding 7c-5h Nenad limps in and as the big blind, EG checks his Ac-Jh and the flop delivers an amazing 5d-5c-3d that gives the Serb a set! Harvin checks and Nenad bets 150,000 which EG raises by 500,000. Nenad pauses a moment, setting his trap for Harvin, and then just calls, possibly hoping EG will lead out after the turn. It's a 9s and EG Harvin puts 1,000,000 in the pot, finally betting his ace. Nenad just calls the million leaving room for Harvin to try and bluff and they see the river card is a 9c, clinching the hand for Nenad. EG fiercely raises all in with 4,100,000! Nenad takes his time, but makes the right call to send EG Harvin packing with $904,389 and a second place finish. His operation a success, Nenad Medic wins the World Poker Tour title and $1,742,694!
