Tournament Details
Women's intuition didn't give any these players an edge, since it was Ladies' Night at the WPT. In a game riddled with the traps they set for each other, these women proved that you may look nice, you may act nice, but you sure don't play nice when it comes to poker!
The prize for the first-ever WPT Ladies Night was a $25,000 buy-in to the WPT Championship, and a guaranteed invite to the WPT Invitational event. None of these six women were going to pass this up without a fight.
Maureen Feduniak came out betting strong with A, 2 against Jennifer Harman's A, 10. She may look like a sweet grandmother of four, but she can play poker with the best of them! As she ran Jennifer off that pot, Jennifer commented "I guess I get to see your hand on TV." The cards have been revealed and Jennifer is probably sick with that play.
After that, Jennifer Harman, with pocket nines, bet against Kathy Liebert. Now Jennifer sensed that Kathy had Aces, but did Jennifer listen to her intuition? No - and that cost her. Then Jennifer ran up against Evelyn Ng's Big Slick with an A, 5. That was the end of Jennifer, going out in 6th place. Many people favored her to win this event, but it just goes to show that sometimes it is not your day.
It seemed that when Jennifer left the table, she left all of her bad luck behind with Kathy Liebert. Kathy, one of the greatest poker players, went up against Clonie Gowen time after time and was repeatedly beat. First Clonie, with an A, J beat Kathy's A, 10. Then Clonie beat Kathy's A, Q knocking Kathy out of the game with a 5th place finish.
Clonie continued playing with a vengeance. Maureen drew a 5, 6 of diamonds and trusted Lady Luck to preserve her against Clonie's K, 8 of clubs. But Lady Luck abandoned her to Clonie, "The Texas Terminator" here tonight, and the Grand Dame of Poker home in 4th place.
Annie Duke, another of the poker greats, tried to defend herself against the two underdogs. But Clonie and Evelyn each took their pieces out of Annie. Duke finally went all in with a pair of 10's, and Gowen flopped two huge pairs and sent Annie home in 3rd place.
Heads up between Clonie Gowen and Evelyn Ng was a sight to behold: the "Texas Terminator" versus the "Bond Girl." Clonie started out with the chip lead, but then Eveyln doubled up when her pair of Jacks held up against Clonie's A, 10. Soon the pendulum swung completely and Eveyln took a strong chip lead. But there was no stopping Clonie Gowen . When Evelyn moved all in with a K, 3 of spades, Clonie quickly called her. Clonie's A, 7 held up and Clonie became the First Lady of WPT Ladies' Night.
