After a dramatic final day of play, we have a winner! Oleg Vasylchenko toppled Russian Anton Petrov after just eight heads-up hands to take the €132,200 top prize including the ToC seat, after grinding into a lead very quickly then triumphing against his long-time friend.
The day started brightly, with play active from the beginning. Our eventual champion Oleg Vasylchenko took a big chip lead into the action, starting with over 1.5 million in chips:
Final Table Chip Counts:
Seat | Player | Country | Chips |
1 | Oleg Vasylchenko | Ukraine | 1,595,000 |
2 | Prebben Stokkan | Norway | 468,000 |
3 | Romain Lewis | France | 668,000 |
4 | Martin Kabrhel | Czech Republic | 465,000 |
5 | Tonio Roder | Germany | 1,150,000 |
6 | Anton Petrov | Russia | 704,000 |
The first player to depart was Norway’s Prebben Stokkan. He never got much higher than the stack he started with, and eventually found himself short enough to move all-in with but was called by Romain Lewis’ pocket aces and they held to eliminate Stokkan.
Anton Petrov was short-stack but managed to find a miracle when at risk with pocket fours against the home town player, Martin Kabrhel’s pocket nines. A four on the turn sent Kabrhel short himself, and he eventually busted in 5th place when his move with king-high walked into the icy wall of Romain Lewis’ pocket queens.
Next to depart was Lewis himself, who check-raised all-in on a flop with bottom pair and was called by Tonio Roder’s middle pair which held.
With three players remaining, Tonio Roder himself got short quickest and was a little unfortunate to bust when his eight paired the flop as did Vasylchenko’s, but Roder’s kicker of an ace was outdone when Vasylchenko turned the flush to send play heads-up.
Heads-up lasted only a few hands, after Vasylchenko put his initial lead to good use, winning five of the first six hands to establish a decent gap. Then came that top-pair versus two-pair cooler and we had a new WPT Champions Club member – the Ukrainian Oleg Vasylchenko. He will go to the Tournament of Champions the proud winner here in Prague but from everyone here in the Czech Republic, thanks for reading as the final progressed and we look forward to seeing you at a future stop on the World Poker Tour!
