On Sunday, after niner hours of play at the final table, Zoltan Gal was crowned the partypoker WPT National Vienna champion, outlasting the 241-entry field at Montesino Pokertainment Centre in the capital city of Austria to win €55,000.

Entering the heads-up battle Gal had a massive advantage in chips, with 6.1 million to the 1.7 million of Mikkel Plum. Plum managed to double up his stack early on, catching a king on the river of a key hand, and making two pair against Gal’s single pair. However, the comeback was halted 20 minutes later when all of the chips went into the middle:

Plum: Heart ADiamond 2
Gal: Heart QClub Q

The board rolled out Club 8Spade 6Heart 10Diamond 4Heart J, and Gal was crowned champion.

“I just had one down swing…I almost busted, but then things turned and it was way up,” Gal said after the victory.  “It means a lot, because this is my second major trophy.”

The WPT Warm Up event  was another highlight of the 11-day long festival.  Saso Lalos topped an impressive field of 645 entries, earning the new WPT Side Event trophy, as well as wealthy payday of €45,000.

Overall, the festival was well attended by local and international poker pros, including WPT Champions Club members Nanos Konstantinos and Giacomo Fundaro; the previous WPT National Vienna Main Event winner Christopher Frank; and the recent WPT National Rozvadov Main Event winner Manig Loeser.

On one of the last evenings, festival participants were invited to the special OKTOBERFEST-themed WPT players’ party with free drinks, traditional Austrian food, and great music from the DJ. The party was hosted at the Montesino terrace, where a specially-decorated tent was located. It was a well-organized event with delicious food and a friendly vibe.
