On February 22, 2017, the World Poker Tour® is making a return to Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, for the WPT® Fallsview Poker Classic C$5,000 Main Event. With an estimated prize pool of C$1.8 million, the Season XV WPT Fallsview Poker Classic is a three-day event that should not be missed.

Not only does Fallsview Casino Resort offer a world-class combination of gaming, dining, and live entertainment along with a Four-Diamond hotel and luxurious spa amenities, the venue is beautifully situated alongside Niagara Falls, with stunning views of one of the world’s most picturesque wonders.

The Season XV WPT Fallsview Poker Classic is the fourth installment of the event that has quickly built up some great history with the World Poker Tour.

Season XII: Matthew Lapossie Wins First-Ever WPT Fallsview Poker Classic

Matthew Lapossie

The WPT Fallsview Poker Classic debuted on the World Poker Tour in Season XII, attracting a field of 383 entries and generating a prize pool of more than C$1.7 million. One of those 383 was Matthew Lapossie, who emerged victorious to claim the C$363,197 first-place prize.

Lapossie worked his way to the final table and was actually the shortest stack of the six remaining. Lapossie fought his way to heads-up play against Dylan Wilkerson, who was the only other player at the final table to eliminate someone. In the end, Lapossie dealt three eliminations and Wilkerson scored two.

On the final hand, it was Lapossie’s Spade ASpade 5 besting the Spade 4Heart 4 for Wilkerson to give the young Canadian the victory.

From the field of 383 entries, the top 45 spots reached the money. Outside of the final table, WPT Champions Club members Shawn Cunix (11th place), Mike Watson (12th place), and Mike Linster (39th place) finished with a cash.

Season XIII: Anthony Zinno Wins Second WPT Title of Three

Anthony Zinno

When the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic returned in Season XIII, the field size grew to 419 entries. A prize pool of more than C$1.9 million was up for grabs, with C$399,579 up top for the champion.

Emerging victorious was a very familiar face on the World Poker Tour, with WPT Champions Club member Anthony Zinno winning the event for his second WPT title.

For Zinno, the victory came during a WPT season where he was on fire. Zinno had seven WPT cashes in Season XIII and two victories, the first of which was in the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic. Immediately following his win at Fallsview, Zinno went back to back when he won the Season XIII WPT L.A. Poker Classic $10,000 Championship.

Thanks to his season-long success, Zinno became the Hublot WPT Player of the Year in Season XIII.

The top 54 places were paid in the Season XIII WPT Fallsview Poker Classic C$5,000 Main Event, with deep runs had by WPT Champions Club members Darren Elias (11th place), Mike Watson (17th place), and Olivier Busquet (32nd place).

Season XIV: David Ormsby Wins Largest-Ever WPT Fallsview Poker Classic Main Event

David Ormsby

In Season XIV, the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic C$5,000 Main Event generated a record field of 423 entries. The prize pool eclipsed C$1.9 million, and it was David Ormsby scoring the lion’s share with a first-place result worth C$383,407.

Ormsby was joined at the final table with another champion from a WPT event at Fallsview Casino Resort in Soren Turkewitsch. Back in Season V, Turkewitsch won the WPT North American Poker Championships C$10,300 Main Event for C$1.38 million. This time, though, Turkewitsch’s run would end in fifth place.

Ormsby entered heads-up play against Robert Forbes at a disadvantage of about 3-1 in chips. Forbes began to pull away early, but Ormsby fought back hard before he eventually took the lead in the match. After getting the lead, Ormsby extended rather quickly. Then, on the final hand, Ormsby won a flip with the Diamond KDiamond J against the pocket threes of Forbes to score the victory.

The top 54 spots reached the money in this event, with WPT Champions Club members Aaron Mermelstein (18th place) and Olivier Busquet (44th place) among those to finish with a cash.
