After the WPT Main Tour finishes up the WPT bestbet Bounty Scramble in Jacksonville, Florida, Season XVI of the World Poker Tour rolls on with a trip north to Playground Poker Club just outside of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The C$3,850 buy-in WPT Montreal Main Event takes place November 10-16, 2017, and is part of the Playground Poker Fall Classic that runs October 29-November 16. The entire festival features C$3.3 million in guaranteed prize pools, including a whopping C$2 million guaranteed prize pool for the WPT Montreal Main Event.
Main Event Anchors the Ship
Running November 10-16 and filmed for broadcast as part of the Season XVI WPT broadcast schedule, is the WPT Montreal C$3,850 Main Event. With a C$2 million guaranteed prize pool, expectations are high for a big field filled with well-known poker players from around the world. Last season’s event attracted a field of 648 entries to generate a guarantee-beating prize pool of C$2.199 million. None other than Mike Sexton walked away with the title, his first, for a payday of C$425,980.
The Season XVI WPT Montreal C$3,850 Main Event has three starting flights, beginning at 11 a.m. local time on each day November 10-12. Players will begin with 30,000 in tournament chips and they are allowed one entry per day.
$100,000 Guarantee Kicks Things Off
Kicking off the festival on Sunday, October 29, is the uniquely and appropriately named Strangers in the Night tournament. This event is a no-limit hold’em poker tournament with a C$160 buy-in, four starting flights, and a juicy C$100,000 guaranteed prize pool. The first two starting flights are scheduled for October 29 at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. local, the third is scheduled for October 30 at 7 p.m., and the fourth is slated for October 31 at 7 p.m.
The tournament’s name, Strangers in the Night, is because the event’s C$25 fee is not your normal tournament fee. Instead, this fee will be given as a charitable donation to the Strangers in the Night charitable initiative. This opening event is a great way to both win some money and give to a good cause.
The Frenzy for $200,000 in Prize Money
Starting on Friday, November 3, is the $250 Frenzy tournament. This C$250 buy-in event features a C$200,000 guaranteed prize pool, six starting flights, and players are allowed to play multiple Day 1s. The six starting flights take place at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. local on each of the days November 3-5.
Last year’s $250 Frenzy on the schedule attracted a booming field of 1,366 entries to generate a prize pool of just under C$300,000. The winner, Duane Fernandez, took home a cool C$50,000 in first-place money.
High Roller Boasts $300,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
Starting on Monday, November 13, at 3 p.m. local time is the C$10,300 High Roller. This event has a guaranteed prize pool of C$300,000 and allows for registration and reentry until the start of Day 2 on Tuesday, November 14, at 1 p.m.
