Rex Clinkscales gave further credence to the saying “third time’s a charm” after he emerged victorious in the Season 4 WPTDeepStacks Tampa Main Event on Monday. Clinkscales was making his third final-table appearance in a WPTDeepStacks Main Event, and this time he came out on top to earn the $159,354 first-place prize.

Clinkscales topped a field of 704 entries at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Florida – the third-largest field in WPTDeepStacks history – and also earned a $3,000 package to the WPTDeepStacks Championship.

WPTDeepStacks Tampa Final Table Results

1st: Rex Clinkscales – $159,354
2nd: Michael Cohen – $92,734
3rd: Sebastian Momtazi – $56,671
4th: Andrew Boccia – $46,711
5th: Ryan Luker – $37,781
6th: Zoltan Anda – $30,911
7th: Amelio Amato – $24,729
8th: Danny Lobato – $18,890
9th: Karl Manouchakian – $13,051

Clinkscales entered Monday’s final table second in chips behind only Sebastian Momtazi. Following the eliminations of Amelio Amato (7th place), Danny Lobato (8th place), and Karl Manouchakian (9th place), Clinkscales found a big double up through Zoltan Anda to move over 4 million in chips.

Anda was then gone in sixth place, as Andrew Boccia looked as though he was going to run away with the title with a stack of more than 10.4 million. But Boccia was pulled back down to Earth following two double ups through him. First was Ryan Luker, and second was Momtazi.

Clinkscales then took out Luker in fifth place, but it wasn’t without a little lady luck involved. Clinkscales held the [pd]Ad3h[/pc] against the Spade ASpade 8 for Luker. The money went in preflop, and the board ran out Diamond KHeart 8Heart 7Heart 2Heart 5.

Boccia eventually fell in fourth place, and then Clinkscales took out Momtazi in third place to set up a heads-up battle with Michael Cohen. Cohen had remained fairly quiet throughout the final table, but did enough to make it to heads-up play. Entering heads-up play, Clinkscales held a big lead with 14.475 million in chips to Cohen’s 3.1 million.

Cohen managed one double up through Clinkscales, but the match was over shortly thereafter. On the final hand, Cohen moved all in from the button with the Diamond 9Diamond 6 and ran into the pocket tens of Clinkscales. A Club 5Club 4Spade 3 flop gave Cohen a straight draw, but the Club K turn and Heart 5 river kept Clinkscales’ tens in front. Cohen was eliminated in second place for $92,374, and it was Clinkscales hoisting the trophy.

Clinkscales scored $159,354 in first-place prize money, a $3,000 package to the WPTDeepStacks Championship, a $5,000 seat into the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Main Event, and a unique Seminole Hard Rock guitar trophy. It was the largest live tournament score of Clinkscales’ poker career.
