Los Angeles, CA (May 24, 2017) – World Poker Tour® today announced the remaining schedule of Season XVI WPT® Main Tour events for 2017, featuring seven marquee poker venues and five televised events.

Season XVI of the World Poker Tour continues with WPT Choctaw at Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma. The stop is highlighted by the televised WPT Choctaw $3,700 Main Event that runs August 4-8, and is the third time the World Poker Tour returns to Choctaw. The previous two WPT Choctaw Main Events attracted fields of more than 1,000 entries each, with average prize pools of nearly $4 million.

Following WPT Choctaw are two more televised events, with the WPT Legends of Poker and the WPT Borgata Poker Open.

The WPT Legends of Poker $4,000 Main Event takes place August 26-31 at The Bicycle Hotel & Casino in Bell Gardens, California, a charter member of the World Poker Tour. Known to many as simply “The Bike,” this well-known poker venue has been a part of the WPT for all 16 seasons and is home to WPT Champions Club members Doyle Brunson (Season III), Dan Harrington (Season VI), Prahlad Friedman (Season VIII), Andy Frankenberger (Season IX), and Mike Shariati (Season XIV).

The Season XVI WPT Borgata Poker Open takes to Atlantic City, New Jersey for a $3,500, televised WPT Main Tour event September 17-22. Since breaking the 1,000-entry mark in Season VIII in 2009, the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship has attracted more than 1,100 entries each year.

In addition, the Season XVI WPT Borgata Poker Open will feature the second installment of the ClubWPT™ King of the Club series. The King of the Club tournament series gives ClubWPT players the opportunity to travel to the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa to play in an invitational tournament under the bright lights of the WPT final table. There will be two televised tables of King of the Club winners with over $37,000 in cash and prizes. Each winner will also earn a $10,000 seat in a future WPT Main Tour event.

WPT Maryland Live! returns to the WPT schedule for a $3,500 Main Event September 30 through October 4. Season XVI marks the third trip to Maryland Live! for the World Poker Tour in a growing region for poker. Season XV’s WPT Maryland Live! Main Event saw field-size growth of more than 64 percent.

In October, the World Poker Tour heads to bestbet Poker, Simulcast & Racing in Jacksonville, Florida for one of the favorite stops on the circuit, the WPT bestbet $5,000 Bounty Scramble. The tournament once again features bestbet’s popular bounty format. In the WPT Main Event on October 20-24, bestbet Jacksonville will have $2,500 bounties on select players, plus a $5,000 bonus will be awarded to the chip leaders of each of the two starting days.

Playground Poker Club, WPT’s Canadian tour stop, hosts the televised WPT Montreal C$3,850 Main Event November 10-16. In Season XV, the WPT Montreal Main Event attracted 648 entries and was famously won by former WPT co-commentator Mike Sexton for his first WPT title.

To close out the 2017 leg of Season XVI, the World Poker Tour returns to another charter venue in Las Vegas, Nevada. From December 7-12, the iconic Bellagio Hotel and Casino hosts the 16th edition of the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic. With a pricier buy-in of $10,400, the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic Main Event attracts the biggest names in poker and generates one of the largest tournament prize pools of the year; it truly does close out the year with a bang. Last year’s event produced a record field for the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic, attracting 791 entries for a year-over-year increase of more than 23 percent. The top two finishers, James Romero in first place and Ryan Tosoc in second place, each earned more than $1.1 million in prize money, with Romero scoring more than $1.9 million for the victory.

2017 WPT Season XVI Schedule

“At the World Poker Tour, we believe in strong, lasting partnerships with our casino partners, and I am delighted to welcome the return of Choctaw Casino Resort, The Bicycle Hotel & Casino, Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa, Maryland Live!, bestbet Poker, Simulcast & Racing, Playground Poker Club, and Bellagio for Season XVI,” said Adam Pliska, CEO of the World Poker Tour. “Each of these venues helped make Season XV of the World Poker Tour our most-attended season in history, and we look forward to returning to these popular properties this year for seven world-class poker events.”

In addition to taking home the lion’s share of the prize pool, all winners of Season XVI WPT Main Tour events will have their name engraved on the prestigious WPT Champions Cup and earn a $15,000 seat into the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions.

Season XVI of the World Poker Tour kicked off in April with the first-ever WPT Beijing.

The WPT Main Tour then headed to the Netherlands for WPT Amsterdam in May. Those two events were won by Pete Chen and Daniel Daniyar, respectively.
