Jeff Watters (pictured) is batting 1,000. After joining ClubWPT in late December, the 62-year-old from Frankford, Delaware, entered a tournament on January 5 for a shot at a $12,500 VIP package to play in the WPT L.A. Poker Classic. The qualifier was scheduled the first week he’d become a member and attracted more than 2,300 players.

Winning the event, however, still seemed so unlikely with such a big field. But that’s just what happened. Watters conquered the first qualifier he’d ever played on the site. It was a dream come true.

He took to Facebook afterward with a screenshot of his victory and a short note about the win.

“So I looked at the ClubWPT site and someone said the site was a waste of money,” he posted. “You decide.”

As Day 1 began at Commerce Casino, Watters was hoping that big run continues. A regular player at the tables for several years, Watters runs a social media public relations company called Delaware Digital Design. The firm helps companies present effective digital footprints and communicate their messages effectively.

“I started in 1994 when the Internet was new,” says Watters, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts. “I get their audience engaged and get their name out there. I have clients from Maine to California.”

In recent years, he’s been able to combine business with his love of poker. Much of his company could be managed from his tablet and he’d play poker at Dover Downs while working. He was able to scratch out some winnings each month while managing the business.

Along with his big LAPC package score on ClubWPT, Watters has won a few more tournaments on the site that have been enough to pay for his subscription fee each month. When asked what his hobbies are away from poker or running his business, he simply notes: “Is there anything else?”
