Cast your mind back to 2005. Joe Hachem was the reigning WSOP Main Event Champion. The New England Patriots were the Superbowl Champions. And in November Andreas Hoivold’s first Hendon Mob cash occurred here at the Holland Casino, Amsterdam.

“It was my first cash outside of Norway,” said Hoivold, who is seated at a table with Dutch TV star Alberto Stegeman, “At the 2005 Master Classics of Poker.”

“I really like Amsterdam, and I like the fact that there are a lot of locals in the field. I think most of the players at my table are locals!”

Hoivold is currently sixth on the Norwegian all-time money list, and says that there he can relate to the Dutch love of poker as a nation.

“The Norwegian Championships get 2,000 players back home and 1,500 in Dublin. And here the Dutch love the Master Classics of Poker, and then when the WPT is here also.”

After cashing last year in the WPT Amsterdam Main Event in 32nd for €6,200, Hoivold is looking for a deep run this year.
