Day 3 of the WPT Uruguay $1,500 Main Event, presented by Brasil Poker Live, is in the books and just six players remain from the field of 410 entries. After entering the day as the absolute shortest stack remaining amongst the final 22 players, Brazil’s Kaue Vinicius De Souza had a triumphant day that saw him finish as chip leader.

Now, De Souza takes a stack of 4.53 million into the televised final table, and he’s just shy of 1.5 million ahead of his closest competitor, Brian Kaufman with 3.04 million.

Between the two stacks of De Souza and Kaufman, more than 60% of the chips in play are accounted for, which explains the big drop off in the counts after Kaufman. Sitting in third place on the leaderboard after Day 3 was Laura Moreno with 1.63 million, and then it’s Miguel Brañas (1.12 million), Mario Bonanata (1.015 million), and Juan Gonzalez (940,000) bunched together.

When Day 3 began, 22 players remained. First to go was Ruben Llaneza (22nd- $4,465), and Martín Vega, who entered Day 2 as the chip leader, fell in 18th place ($6,335).

After the final nine players joined around one last table, Fabio Colonese was the first player to bust, and he went out when he ran pocket eights into the two aces of Bonanata.

Jorge Luis Teodoulou then busted in eighth place at the hands of De Souza, who also used the two aces he was dealt to score an elimination.

In seventh place, and the final player to bust on the day, was Mathías Duarte. He fell at the hands of Kaufman, who held the Heart KHeart J and came from behind to beat the Club ASpade J of Duarte.

As an official partner of the World Poker Tour for this event, the Aconcagua Poker Network sent more than 200 players to WPT Uruguay. Of that group, De Souza, Kaufman, and Gonzalez are all Aconcagua players to have reached the final table.

The final six players are guaranteed at least $21,075, but it’s the $109,860 top prize they’ll all be gunning for. The final table, which will be filmed for broadcast as part of the WPT’s Season XVI schedule, starts on Sunday at 4 p.m. local time from Enjoy Punta del Este.
