Chip Leader Ioannis Angelou-Konstas Eyes Second WPTDS Title

Ioannis Angelou-Konstas chip leader day 2
Ioannis Angelou-Konstas stands on the verge of making WPTDS Europe history as he starts today’s WPTDeepStacks Brussels final table with an overwhelming chip lead. Angelou-Konstas already has one WPTDS title to his belt, after taking down WPTDS Netherlands last October, and a win today would see him join Rex Clinkscales as the only player to have won two WPTDS titles.

Clinkscales won WPTDS tournaments in Tampa and Edmonton last year to become the first, but no one has achieved the feat in Europe and Angelou-Konstas is well placed.

Shortly after bagging last night, Angelou-Konstas had a brief chat with us and said that he was, understandably, feeling great.

“I would say that the pressure going into this final table is much less this time. Probably because I’ve done it before, but also I think I have an even bigger chip lead than I had last time. I also feel like the level of play is a bit lower than in Valkenberg.”

Everything seemed to fall into place yesterday for the Greek player who was lost for words to describe his play on Day 2.

“I’ve run…I don’t even know what the best word to describe it is…let’s say amazing. Everything I did worked; the bluffs worked – I mean I usually had it, so I rarely was bluffing – but everything worked to perfection.

“I played good; not sure if I played my absolute A-Game, but I just ran really good. That combination made everything possible.”

Heading into today, we asked Angelou-Konstas whether the comfortable position he is in with regard to chip stacks will change or adjust his style of play.

“I’m going to try and adjust tomorrow. I don’t really know too much about the players at the other table, so I’m probably just going to see who cares about the money and the payjumps and who doesn’t really care. Things like seeing who’s enrvous who’s not. I will go from there!”
