After a flop of Spade 9Club 8Spade 7, three players check, and Corey Hochman bets 3,000 from the button. The small blind calls, and Jeff Platt check-raises from the big blind to 11,000. The middle-position player folds, and Hochman moves all in for 32,600.

The small blind four-bets all in over the top for about 115,000, and Platt goes into the tank, apparently stunned by the action.

Platt tanks for a while before he mournfully folds his cards, saying, “Please don’t show me two crazy bluffs.”

Hochman shows Spade QSpade 8 for a pair of eights with a queen-high flush draw, and the small blind turns over Spade JSpade 6 for an open-ended straight draw with a jack-high flush draw. Hochman needs his hand to hold to stay alive.

The turn card pairs the board with the Club 9, the river card is the Club K, and Hochman’s hand holds up for him to win the pot with two pair, nines and eights, to double up in chips.

Jeff Platt  –  24,500  (41 bb)

After the hand, another player asks if Platt folded a good hand, and he says he had the winning hand. Someone asked what he had, and Platt simply said, “I beat eights.”
