David Tuchman Can't Overcome a Set of Fours

Aug 28, 2016

David Tuchman

After a flop of Diamond QClub 5Heart 4, the big blind checks, and David Tuchman bets 1,800 under the gun. A third player calls from middle position, and the big blind calls.

The turn card is the Spade 8, and the big blind moves all in for 3,600. Tuchman calls, and then the middle-position player moves all in for 13,400. Tuchman says, “How did I get myself into this?”

Tuchman thinks for a bit before he calls. Here are their cards in descending order of chip counts:

David Tuchman:  Diamond AHeart Q  (pair of queens)
Middle Position:  Spade 4Diamond 4  (set of fours)
Big Blind:  Club KClub 8  (pair of eights)

With a set of fours, the middle-position player has Tuchman and the big blind drawing dead. The meaningless river card is the Club 2, and the big blind is eliminated as the winner doubles thru Tuchman.

David Tuchman  –  37,000  (46 bb)
