No matter how the WPT bestbet Bounty Scramble turns out, Aaron Van Blarcum (pictured) walks away alone at the top of the Hublot Player of the Year standings. The Texan has made it a goal to chase the title since winning the WPT Legends of Poker in September for $474,390. So far it seems to be working out.

Even with a minimum of 50 points, it springboards Van Blarcum to the top. He and Donald Maloney were locked in a tie with 1,200 points each. However, after winning the WPT Borgata Poker Open, Maloney had the edge with $616,186 in reported winnings for that accomplishment.

Van Blarcum has almost $550,000 in live tournament winnings but had very limited tournament scores before Legends. A highlight included finishing 212th at the World Series of Poker Main Event this summer for $50,855.

Van Blarcum was pleased to be in the top spot, but was hoping for an even deeper run in Jacksonville. He feels after his win at Legends that another nice performance will show even more that he can play with some of the WPT regulars. He’s got another chance to show that with his deep run continuing on Day 3 at bestbet.

“It feels good,” he says. “Hopefully I get a little more here. I think coming and playing in all these is giving me a little more experience in tournaments because I haven’t played in a whole lot of them. It’s a little bit of a different gear switching from cash games to this. As it keeps going along, I think I should get a little better each time.”
