Champion Frank Stepuchin

Hand #72: Shannon Shorr raises to 160,000 from the button and Frank Stepuchin calls in the big blind.

The flop lands Spade 7Club 5Diamond 8 and after Stepuchin checks, Shorr bets 210,000.

Stepuchin calls as the turn lands the Spade A. Stepuchin checks once again before Shorr bets out 650,000. Stepuchin uses his full extension of free time available and then announces he is all in for 7,165,000. Shorr fairly quickly calls all in for 2,150,000 total.

Stepuchin: Diamond AClub 4

Shorr is at-risk but in the lead with his two pair against Stepuchin’s top pair. Shorr, however, would still need to fade an ace, seven, six, or four to stay alive.

The dealer burns and turns the Spade 4 on the river to improve Stepuchin to a better two pair, and consequently, Shorr is eliminated in second-place for a $355,885 payday.

Frank “The Tank” Stepuchin wins the Season XVII WPT Gardens Poker Championship for $548,825, along with a Hublot Big Bang Steel Watch, and a $15,000 entry into the season-ending Baccarat Crystal Tournament of Champions.
