Gavin Cochrane Wins First Sexton Cup Event for $540,664; Thomas Boivin Takes Runner Up for $388,118

Aug 4, 2020

The damage was done at the end of the last level, when Gavin Cochrane managed to get a double up to take the lead. Since then, Cochrane hasn’t looked back, hitting most of the boards he’s played and chipping away at Thomas Boivin’s stack as a result.

Boivin is down to a little over 20 big blinds and he limps the button with Heart ADiamond 4. Cochrane raises 4x to 4 million and Boivin goes all in over the top. It’s an easy decision for Cochrane who quickly calls with Spade AClub J and he is just a few cards away from winning over half a million dollars and having his name etched on that elusive Mike Sexton Champions Cup.

The board runs out Diamond 7Spade 10Heart 8Diamond 10Heart J and it seals the deal for Cochrane who becomes the latest WPT Champions Club member, and the first to have their name engraved on the Sexton Cup since it was renamed. Congratulations go to him and to Thomas Boivin for finishing runner up and bagging a very impressive $388,118 for his deep run.
