Hand #34: Zinno and Tran Get Into It a Bit

Mar 4, 2015

Hand #34 – Anthony Zinno raises from middle position to 75,000, and Peter Tran calls from the big blind.

Tran checks in the dark as the flop comes Kheart7spade4club. Zinno checks behind.

The turn card is the 2spade, Tran checks, and Zinno bets 150,000. Tran check-raises to 350,000, using three purple (100K) chips and two red (25K) chips. Don’t worry, this will be relevant information in a moment.

Zinno moves all in for 735,000, and Tran asks for an exact count. While the dealer is counting Zinno’s stack, Tran holds his cards up kind of high, and one of his hole cards is clearly visible to the two players on either side of him — Tim Cramer and Peter Neff.

Finally Tran says that he’s going to make change or that he’s “changing” or something like that, and he pulls back his bet to replace it with different denominations — this time his bet of 350,000 is comprised of fourteen red (25K) chips.

Zinno is on the other side of the table, and he asks what just happened. He says it looked like a call, and he almost turned his hand over. Tournament Director Matt Savage is called over, and after he is brought up to speed on the situation, he rules that Tran technically hasn’t acted on his hand yet. But it was misleading, and Savage gives Tran a warning.

Zinno wants additional clarifiication, because the move was very misleading in his eyes. Savage makes it very clear to Tran by saying, “If you do it again, you will receive a penalty, and it won’t be just one round.”

Tran thinks a bit longer before he folds, throwing his Kdiamond8diamond (pair of kings) toward the center of the table and saying, “Here, take my chips.”

Zinno says something to Tran along the lines of, “Look, we all know that you shoot angles, and I think you were trying to shoot an angle here.” Tran responds with, “I’m not an angle-shooter,” but TD Savage quiets him with another warning.
