Exit Interview with Mike Sexton

On the support he got and his tournament experience: “It was very nice, and it’s thrilling to get to a final table. And as you said, I could have gone out in fifth place, I could have gone out in sixth. Ironically, I had two kings twice against [Strelitz], he had ace-seven offsuit both times, and he beat me both times. That’s pretty unusual, just shows you I think destiny is on his side.”

On his opponents: “They’re just terrific players, they really are great players, and they deserve to be where they are right now playing for this title in this moment. It was a pretty good run, I just didn’t quite get there.”

On how he keeps up with younger competitors: “I’m wondering that myself [laughs]. This is an event that is six days long, that’s a long event. I was very proud that I had big chips all five days, and today I came in on a short stack. I’m keeping up with them I think, and I enjoyed playing with them. It’s because it’s fun to me. Even when the guys are running over the table, like Daniel was yesterday against me, it’s just fun to watch these guys work.”

On if he’s jumping back in the WPT Commentator booth to finish the show: No, I’m not going back to work. Tony [Dunst] can do it! I’m taking the night off, I’m going to the bar!
