#HashtagKing Not A One Hit Wonder

Feb 27, 2016

Salomon Ponte
At the biggest Season 3 stop of the WPTDeepStacks season, Canada’s Salomon Ponte outlasted a nearly 1,700 player field to claim the LuckyHearts WTPDS Main Event title and just shy of a $345,000 score. After that victory, the self proclaimed “#HashtagKing” provided the WPTDS live stream broadcast with one of the more, we’ll say interesting winner’s interviews and that clip, safe to say, has since gone viral.

The video has been on the front page of Break.com, Deadspin.com and Ponte has been featured on multiple ESPN radio shows since his win. Throughout the poker community, the #HashtagKing hasn’t been as accepted though, as his abrasive table presence has pushed the wrong buttons with┬ásome who may think that Ponte was a “one hit wonder”.

Never to be proven wrong, the #HashtagKing quelled those whispers last week, as he final tabled a $1,000 CAD event at the WPT’s most recent stop at the Fallsview Poker Classic. Ponte ended up earning another $16,000 score and now, he’ll try to earn another WPTDS title, in what should be another massive Main Event.

The former CPA turned now professional poker player and social media king isn’t short on confidence and if he’s able to continue to add to his tournament resume here at Parx, he won’t be short on experience either. Needless to say, the recent WPTDS champion and WPTDS POY contender will certainly be player to watch throughout this Big Stax XV 1500 event.
