Jack Salter Adds to His Illustrious Résumé with a WPTDeepStacks Montreal Title

Jack Salter is one of the most accomplished players in the poker world, with more than $8,000,000 amassed in tournament winnings and 20 six-figure scores worldwide (three of which are seven figures) according to Hendon Mob.

Now that number stands as 21 six-figure scores. Salter won the WPTDeepStacks Montreal title, besting a field of 596 entries to win the first place prize of CAD 155,000.

“I had just busted the Main Event in 37th place and then I jumped into the late registration toward the end of Day 1B,” Salter said afterward. “This is a great tournament series, so there was no way I could miss it.”

Salter began the eight-handed final table fourth in chips but quickly made his way toward the top, flopping top set against Andrew Ostapchenko’s top two pair. The chips went in on the flop and Ostapchenko exited in eighth place. After George Grady busted in seventh place, Salter scored another elimination. In a limped pot, Gonzalez Hernan had a big blind special with a flopped straight. Salter had flopped a flush draw and went the chips got in on the flop, Salter turned the flush to eliminate Hernan in sixth place. Ryan Yu and Santiago Plante were the next two to go, falling at the hands of Alexander James Allison.

A 43-hand battle followed between Salter, Allison and Pat Quinn, with each taking turns as the chip leader during three-handed play. Ultimately, Salter began to pull away and eliminated Quinn in third place. Salter picked up ace-king and shoved with a covering stack from the small blind. Quinn called all in from the big blind with ace-six but couldn’t catch up, setting the stage for heads-up.

With nearly a 4:1 lead to begin heads-up play, Salter’s lead proved too much for Allison to overcome.

Having extended his lead, Salter shoved on the fifth hand of heads-up play with ten-six suited and Allison woke up with ace-ten in the big blind. Salter turned a pair of sixes, Allison couldn’t catch up and Salter officially earned the victory.

“I will play a slightly different style in these buy-ins than I would in a high roller, but I treat every tournament seriously and I’m really competitive, so I really want to win.”

Jack Salter wins WPTDeepStacks Montreal, earning CAD 155,000 (~US $123,016) and the WPTDeepStacks trophy. As part of his prize money, Salter receives a US $3,000 prize package that includes his seat into the Season XVIII WPTDeepStacks Championship, which will be held in April at Thunder Valley Casino Resort near Sacramento, California. Salter also receives POY points for the WPTDeepStacks Player of the Year race.
