Jason James Is Running Alright

Feb 23, 2017

Jason James
Jason James raises from under the gun and three players, including the big blind, call.

The flop comes Spade AHeart 8Heart 6. The big blind checks, James bets 25,000, the other two players fold, and the big blind check-raises all in for around 90,000 total. James mulls it over, then calls.

James holds Heart 4Heart 5 for a guthsot straight-flush draw, but the other player has top pair and the superior flush draw with Heart AHeart Q.

“Stone dead,” another player at the table inaccurately observes.

Seemingly to drive the inaccuracy home, the turn brings the Spade 7, giving James a straight.

“Except that,” another player quips at the player who pronounced James DOA a little too early.

The river is the Diamond 8 and James wins another massive pot, continuing his improbable run from Day 1, when he was down to just six big blinds and rallied to finish top ten in chips. The run-good might be getting  to James’ head though…

“Sounds like Jason’s running good,” a player calls over from another table.

“I’m running alright,” James replies with a shrug.
