Jimmy Livramento has been crowned the WPTDeepStacks Portugal Main Event champion after he came through the 224 player field at the Casino Vilamoura.

Today’s final day of action capped four days of Main Event poker at the beautiful setting of Vilamoura in the Algarve region of southern Portugal.

Nine players returned for the final day all with the hope of securing the €50,000 first-place prize as well as the €2,500 WPTDS season-ending package.

Final Table Results:

1 – Jimmy Livramento – €50,000 +  €2,500 WPTDeepStacks season-ending event package
2 – Henrique Couto – €32,000
3 – Hugo Cesario Gomes Andrade – €24,000
4 – Pier D’Ancona – €17,800
5 – Francisco Lopes – €13,367
6 – Andre Cuco – €10,209
7 – Artur Coelho – €7,891
8 – Tiago Branco – €6,185
9 – Jorge Oliveira – €4,918

Livramento was the man to go the distance after he came out on top during the heads-up battle with Henrique Couto. Despite Couto taking an early lead in heads-up, Livramento was able to secure a double up when his eight-five hand hit a full house against Couto who had flopped two pair with queen-five. Livramento came into the final table as the chip leader and held this lead throughout.

Livramento’s momentum helped him apply the pressure successfully and ultimately got the better of Couto after a near two-hour battle. The final hand saw Couto’s all in called on the turn with Livramento holding top pair. Couto had a smaller pair but also had outs with the up-and-down straight draw and needed to hit on the river. Livramento turned his back on the table and only knew of his victory when his rail cheered after they saw the river brick for Couto.

Another big story of the day was that of defending champion Francisco Lopes (below) who played brilliantly to secure back-to-back final tables but ultimately fell in 5th place, and his dream of another victory in Vilamoura ended.

Jorge Oliveira was the first player to depart from the final table in 9th place and was quickly followed by Tiago Branco and Artur Coelho.

André Cuco departed in 6th place after he saw his set of queens lose to the runner-runner straight hit by Livramento, and after Lopes’ departure, Pier D’Ancona took 4th place with Hugo Cesário Gomes Andrade the final player to fall before heads-up play began.

Livramento then sealed his run from Day 3 chip leader to the winner and picked up his first recorded live tournament victory.

The sun has shone on Vilamoura over the past week and added a fantastic atmosphere to the WPTDeepStacks, with plenty of activities off-the-felt for the players and the opportunity to relax on the idyllic beaches.

Up next is the WPTDeepStacks Main Event in Marrakech, which runs September 27 – 30. All the information can be found on the www.worldpokertour.com events page.

But for now, that’s all from Vilamoura. We shall see you again in Marrakech at the end of the month! We hope you can join us there!
