Jimmy Tran Takes a Pot on the River

May 18, 2019

Jimmy Tran

A player limps under the gun for 200, a middle-position player raises to 800, and Jimmy Tran calls from middle position. The small blind reraises to 2,600, and the under-the-gun player folds. The middle-position player and Tran both call.

Three players see the flop of Club KHeart 10Club 9, and the small blind bets 5,500. The middle-position player thinks for a while before he folds, and Tran thinks for a bit before he calls.

The turn card is the Heart 3, the small blind bets 15,000, and Tran thinks for a bit before he calls.

The river card pairs the board with the Heart K, the small blind checks, and Tran thinks for a while before he bets 17,000.

His opponent asks, “Did you really catch another king? Or a heart?”

Tran asks if his opponent has two aces, and his opponent says, “You’re getting really warm.”

The small blind eventually folds, and Tran takes the pot without showing his cards.

Tran asks, “What did you have?”

His opponent says, “I had you beat until the king on the river.”
