Matias and Rousso, a Clash of Languages

Apr 17, 2015

For the first time today we just spotted Portugese EPT champion Antonio Matias, who took down the Vilamoura event back in 2009 for $603,139.

Matias was seated at Vanessa Rousso’s table when we overheard part of their conversation switching between Portugese, French, Spanish and English.

Rousso rolled out a very smooth sentence in Portugese and Matias was clearly impressed. The number 5 on the Portugese all-time money list responded with, what sounded like, a question in Portugese, but Rousso had to admit defeat right away.

“Sorry, but that’s the only sentence that I know,” Rousso said.

For a commercial she shot over four years ago in Portugal, Rousso had to learn one sentence, and she still remembered it to this day.

“I will never forget that sentence, I practized on it a lot.”

Rousso went on to speak Spanish to Matias, who admitted his French was better.

Rousso switched to French right away, as she lived in Paris for quite some time during her early years, and speaks the langague fluently.

Right now Rousso’s still sitting on around 65,000 chips while Matias has to fight back in it with around 25,000.
