Matt Stout Wins "The Most Interesting Hand" at His Table

Oct 17, 2010

Note: This hand happened a few minutes before the table redraw.

Jason Koon raises from early position, Matt Stout calls from middle position, Amit Makhija calls from late position, Andreas Hoivold calls from the small blind, and Daniel Alaei calls from the big blind.

All five players check to the turn on a board of [Kd8d2dJc], Hoivold bets 20,000, Alaei folds, and Koon, Stout, and Makhija all call.

The river card pairs the board with the [Ks], Hoivold and Koon both check, and Stout bets 78,000. Makhija tanks for several minutes, at one point telling Stout, "This is just like the 25k, man." (Makhija is likely referring to the $25,000 WPT World Championship held here at Bellagio last April.)

Makhija eventually folds, and Hoivold thinks for about 30 seconds before he calls. Koon tosses his cards in the muck.

Stout quickly says, "Nut flush," and turns over [Ad10d] for, sure enough, the nut flush. Hoivold taps the table to indicate that it’s good, and mucks. Makhija asks him, "Did you have the other king?" Hoivold nods but doesn’t show.

More than one player called it the most interesting hand they had seen all day.
