Michael Newman Wins With a 0.1% Chance to Eliminate an Opponent

Jeff Fielder raises to 800 from middle position, Michael Newman (pictured) calls from the cutoff, Season XV Hublot WPT Player of the Year Benjamin Zamani calls from the button, the player in the small blind calls and Raminder Singh calls from the big blind.

The flop comes down Club QDiamond 9Diamond 2, and action checks to Newman who bets 3,300. Zamani folds and the player in the small blind check-raises all in for about 8,000. Singh and Fielder fold before Newman calls.

Newman shows Heart QSpade 9 for top two pair, but his opponent shows Spade QDiamond Q for top set of queens.

Newman has a 0.1% chance of winning (about one in one thousand), and hits the miracle runout as the Heart 9 turn and Club 9 river complete the board to give him quad nines, eliminating his opponent and causing quite a stir at his table.

“Never hit anything like that before,” chuckles Newman after the hand.

Michael Newman – 61,000 (203 bb)
