Mike Leah Wins WPT World Championship 8-Game Championship ($78,841); Luigi Santoro Finishes Runner-Up ($48,676)

Dec 10, 2023

No-Limit Hold ’em

After Luigi Santoro limps, Mike Leah drops a stack of T-25,000 chips forward totaling 525,000. Santoro happily calls and exposes his hand, Heart AClub Q.

One problem though, Santoro mistook the bet for an all-in bet, which it wasn’t. He still has 350,000 in play behind, and his hand is now exposed.

He tells Leah it doesn’t matter what comes on the flop, he won’t be folding.

The dealer spreads a flop of Spade KHeart QClub J and Leah indeed does move in the rest. Santoro calls, and despite flopping second pair and a gutshot, he’s still behind as Leah shows Heart KDiamond 9 for a pair of kings.

The dealer completes the board with the Diamond 2 and Heart 3, sealing the victory for Leah, while Santoro has to settle for a hard-earned runner-up spot.

Mike Leah – 4,400,000
Luigi Santoro – eliminated
