Tomorrow, when the field makes the money, the World Poker Tour will award its one-billionth dollar in prize money, and it’s part of a celebration that the WPT is tagging with “One Billion Dollars; One Million Memories.” And TJ Shepherd just made a WPT memory that he’ll never forget.

Earlier this summer, Shepherd bought an autographed copy of Sexton’s new book, “Life’s a Gamble,” and when he found himself seated at Sexton’s table, he told Sexton, “When I was reading your book, I never imagined I’d be playing against you.”

Eventually, Sexton found himself all in for 60,000 with X AX J, dominated by the X AX Q of Shepherd. There was an ace on the flop, but Sexton never caught up to Shepherd’s queen kicker, and he was eliminated from the tournament.

Shepherd now has 226,000 on Day 2 of a televised World Poker Tour event, and he not only met Mike Sexton, but knocked him out of a major tournament. The smile on Shepherd’s face is enough to tell you that this is a memory he’ll never forget.
