Moritz Kranich Wins WPT Bellagio Cup VI

Jul 16, 2010

Moritz Kranich has won the WPT Bellagio Cup VI and the $875,150 first-place prize.

It wasn’t easy. When action got down to three players, Kranich was up against Justin ‘BoostedJ’ Smith and Phil Ivey, two players he later said he considers to have been the best at the table, if not in the entire tournament.

Smith had made the final table in last year’s Bellagio Cup, and Ivey was appearing at his record-setting ninth WPT final table.

After Ivey busted out in third place, Smith doubled through Kranich to make it close. But on the final all in preflop hand, Kranich’s [Kh10d] pulled ahead of Smith’s [JcJd] on the turn and held on to give Kranich his second largest career cash, following only the $1.1 million he made for winning the EPT Deauville main event in 2009.

Here is a look at the final table results:

1st. Moritz Kranich – $875,150
2nd. Justin Smith – $594,755
3rd. Phil Ivey – $363,650
4th. John Caridad – $237,902
5th. Rob Akery – $169,930
6th. Eric Afriat – $118,950
