2018 marks the first year the Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open has become a WPT event and Seminole Hard Rock officials have been pleased with the turnout so far. Day 1a is in the books and attracted 417 entries, and was the largest Day 1a starting flight in the history of the event.

Tournament director Tony Burns (pictured) was pleased with the turnout. Last year’s event attracted 585 entries and missed the $2 million guarantee by a small amount. However, the tournament attracted a bit more than 750 entries the previous two years.

“Having players coming in from out of town after enjoying the holiday with the family has made for a terrific turnout and we’re excited for Day 1b,” he said. “Obviously, having the WPT here is great and the partnership is almost 10 years old now. There’s a great following of players with the WPT, and we’re excited to have everyone here.”

The $2 million prize pool seemed inevitable as play started on Day 1b.

The casino shuffled around some other events with other partners to make the WPT work and is now pleased to have several major tour brands making stops on the property. Having two WPT championship events has become a major plus for the poker scene at the casino.

“To win a WPT for a lot of guys is very prestigious,” Burns says.

This marked the first time the RRPO has been held in the property’s new Event Center. Players have been pleased with the facility and tournament.

“It’s been another fantastic turnout for the WPT,” Burns said. “Our partnership with the tour has been long-standing and very successful.”
