Phil Hellmuth Eliminated by Danny Illingworth

Feb 26, 2012

With the board showing [AsJh2s10d] on the turn, Phil Hellmuth bets 8,000 from the small blind, and Danny Illingworth calls from the hijack.

The river card is the [3c], Hellmuth bets 17,000, Illingworth moves all in, and Hellmuth quickly calls.

Illingworth shows [5c4d] for a five-high wheel straight, and Hellmuth stands up to get a clear look at Illingworth’s cards and the board, seemingly stunned as he holds his own cards.

Hellmuth says, "What does he have? A wheel? He paid eight thousand to draw to a three?" Hellmuth drops his [Ah10h] face up on the table for two pair, aces and tens.

Danny Illingworth  –  265,000  (88 BBs)
Phil Hellmuth  –  Eliminated

Hellmuth doesn’t move for a few moments, saying, "Is this a joke? Is this for real?" He looks to Illingworth and says, "Well played, sir." Illingworth says, "Thanks."

The WPT cameras follow Hellmuth as he leaves the table, and he gives a few parting words, repeating the phrase, "Was that for real?"

So ends my poker nightmare, in nightmarish style. I looked at his hand in disbelief for a moment and asked, "Is this for real?" 5-4 off suit
