Following the river of a board with about 19,000 in the pot, WPT Champions Club member Phil Laak bets 4,200 from early position. Vicente Delgado raises all in from middle position with a covering stack, sending Laak into the tank with about 23,000 left behind.
“There are exceptional cash games downstairs,” says Laak. “I’ve made 2.5x my buy-in the last two days. But that million dollars up top.” He turns to Jason Wheeler (who is sitting on his right) and says, “What do I do, Jason Wheeler? He must have pocket nines, right? I call the clock on myself.”
The dealer calls for a floorperson and Laak has one minute to act on his hand. After about 30 seconds, Laak folds face up to the surprise of many at his table.
“Show one,” says Jon Borenstein to Delgado, and Delgado shows the . “Eww. Not that one.”
“I am the worst,” says Laak.
“I wanted to talk so badly,” says Jason Wheeler as he takes a stack of chips and motions them forward. “I would have snap called.” Most of table says the same to Laak.
“I shouldn’t have taken so long everybody, I’m sorry about that,” says Laak.
Chino Rheem laughs and says, “You should be sorry for not calling, and you wasted 10 minutes.”
Vincente Delgado – 104,000 (86 bb)
Phil Laak – 23,000 (19 bb)
