Players Can Donate to WPT Foundation Ladies Night Charities

Players at the World Poker Tour Legends of Poker main event can donate 1 percent of their winnings to the pool of charity money that will be donated in the name of our six contestants at the WPT Foundation Ladies Night event that will take place on Thursday, September 5. Read on below to see the great charities that will be the recipients of this generosity, and the charoty each lady will be representing. If you want to contribute be sure to indicate your donation level when you register for the WPT Legends of Poker main event.

National Council for Research on Women

The charity of choice for poker pro Vanessa Rousso, the National Council for Research on Women (NCRW), is a network of leading university and community based research, policy, and advocacy centers dedicated to advancing rights and opportunities for women and girls. NCRW’s areas of research cover a wide spectrum of issues ranging from women’s leadership issues, to equality and diversity issues, and health and reproductive rights to issues of violence against women.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Association

Breast cancer is a well-documented disease that receives significant attention on a national level. But like most things we are all aware of, the true impact the disease can have on a patient and her family isn’t often visible until it hits close to home. Lily Kiletto will play to raise funds and awareness for the Breast Cancer Awareness Association, which provides support to breast cancer survivors, their families, and friends in and around Minnesota’s Twin Cities.

Rape Abuse & Incest National Network

Represented by WPT’s own Kimberly Lansing, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization and is dedicated to preventing sexual violence, helping victims of sexual violence, and ensuring that rapists are brought to justice. Named as one of “America’s 100 Best Charities” by Worth Magazine, RAINN also created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800-656-HOPE) in partnership with more than 1,100 rape crisis centers around the country.

Domestic Violence Project of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County

Chosen as the charity of choice by Jessica Dawley, the Domestic Violence Project of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County is dedicated to providing free, high-quality legal advice to victims of domestic violence. According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, nearly 5,400 domestic violence cases were reported in Palm Beach County in 2012, and national statistics suggest that one in four women will encounter some form of domestic violence in her lifetime.

Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation

Poker pro and philanthropist, Liz Lieu, will be playing for the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, whose motto is, “Act with Love for a Future Without Breast Cancer”, is dedicated to identifying the cause of breast cancer and working toward finding a cure for the disease, which will affect more than 230,000 women in the U.S. in 2013, according to the American Cancer Society.

WE ADVANCE

Co-founded by actor and activist Maria Bello, WE ADVANCE is dedicated to promoting the health, safety, and well-being of women throughout Haiti. Through grass-roots activism and partnerships with other non-governmental organizations, WE ADVANCE trains community leaders in all aspects of health, safety, and education so that they can begin making real differences throughout their entire communities. The winner of the LIPS Qualifier will have her donations go to this charity.
