Ryan Riess Back in the Mix with Second Double

Aug 18, 2020

It was looking bleak for Ryan Riess just a few hands ago. The American has found a second double up now though that brings him right back in the game.

Riess had opened Spade QSpade J in middle position and João Maureli defends Heart 9Diamond 6 from the big blind. The flop is an interesting Spade 6Spade 9Heart 4 and Riess has flopped a flush draw with over-cards to the board, while Maureli has top two pair.

Neither player bets on the Spade 6Spade 9Heart 4 flop and the turn is a Diamond Q, improving Riess to top pair. Maureli leads 1.5 million and Riess flats, taking them to the river, which comes Spade 8. Maureli opts to check and calls his two pair when Riess goes all in for 4.3 million into the 5 million pot, but he can’t beat a flush and Riess has almost 40 big blinds now.

Ryan Riess – 13.5 million
João Maureli – 21.4 million
