The winner of the Hublot WPT Player of the Year race for Season XV – Benjamin Zamani – just appeared on set here at the Monster WPT Tournament of Champions to receive a custom watch from Hublot, who is the official timekeeper and watch of the World Poker Tour. WPT Anchor Lynn Gilmartin presented him with the prize up at her desk overlooking the final table.
Zamani ran out to a quick lead in a POY race that really tightened up in the final weeks of the Season when Sam Panzica won the Bay 101 Shooting Star during the WPT California Swing in March. Zamani was able to hold on to the lead however, and his 2,550 points beat Panzica by 50 points (a min-cash in any WPT Main Tour event) in the end. If Zamani had not cashed in the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown last week, Panzica would have won the award.
Zamani cashed four times on the WPT Main Tour, and he made three of the first six final tables to kick the season off with a bang. Zamani took second place at WPT Choctaw, followed that up with another runner-up finish at Legends of Poker, and took fifth at WPT Maryland Live! during a whirlwind stretch that gave him his huge lead. Zamani won $846,616 at WPT events this season. In addition to the custom Hublot watch, Zamani will also receive complimentary accommodation at any WPT Main Tour event he decides to play during Season XVI.
