Small Talk with Alexander Lakhov

Aleksandr Lakhov

Alexander Lakhov is a well-known Russian player on the circuit, with a special history on World Poker Tour stops. He has several cashes, and he has won two WPT titles during the partypoker WPT Merit Classic in 2014. Some other results are a second-place finish in the 2012 WPT Prague and took down the third place in the WPT500 Aria in 2015. He’s seated in the WPT Russia Main Event with a comfortable stack and we had the opportunity to have a little chat with him during a break.

-As we said, you had many good scores in WPT events, what is your best memory so far?

Actually, I didn’t reach any good score for a long time, but the WPT series are really the ones I love the most because that’s where I had my best results, so I always try to come to those events.

-Your first live cash was in 2003, how did you work on your game all those years to keep your game up?

Yeah, I’ve been playing for a really long time, but I don’t have any specific way of working. It’s mostly playing and getting experience. I think about some hands after the day and review some moves I did to see how I could have played differently. I talk about my hands with good online players who study the game through some programs. I stopped playing online a few years ago, but I like to talk about strategy with online players.

-You have a lot of scores in Sochi, which means you must know the city and the area pretty well now. What do you particularly like at that stop?

It’s one of the biggest places to play in Russia, they do a lot for poker in the country, and the casino is excellent. I enjoy some skiing too!

-Are you going to travel a lot for the next months? Do you have a busy schedule?

I always travel a lot in Europe. I’ll probably go next to the WPT Germany in Rozvadov. And next summer I’ll be in Vegas for the WPT500 Aria for sure.
