Steve Brecher Triples Up; Fundaro Calls Mizzi's Bluff

Mar 12, 2015

Steve Brecher
Steve Brecher (pictured), who won this event back in 2009, was knocked down to fewer than four big blinds after his AdiamondKspade lost to Rep Porter’s 7spade7club on a board of 9club8spade7diamondJdiamond5club.

A few minutes later, Shooting Star Sorel Mizzi raises under the gun to 18,000, Giacomo Fundaro calls from the hijack, and Steve Brecher moves all in from the small blind for 27,000. Mizzi and Fundaro both call.

The flop comes 6club5spade2club, Mizzi checks, Fundaro bets 27,000, and Mizzi calls.

The turn is the Jspade, and both players check.

The river card pairs the board with the 2heart, Mizzi checks, Fundaro bets 21,000, and Mizzi tanks for a while before he check-raises to 105,000. Fundaro thinks for a bit before he calls, and Mizzi says, “Ace high.” Fundaro shows 10spade10heart to win the side pot with two pair, tens and deuces.

Brecher turns over Jheart9heart to win the main pot with a higher two pair, jacks and deuces.

Giacomo Fundaro  –  1,085,000  (135 bb)
