Steve O'Dwyer is the WOC Heads Up Champion Winning $135,000; Artem Akhmetvaleyev Takes $75,000 for Runner Up

Play is in the second level and already it feels like there has been a fair amount of history between the two finalists.

Steve O’Dwyer opens with Club AClub K and Artem Akhmetvaleyev defends Diamond 8Spade 7, calling the 2,640 bet.

The Russian makes a pair on the Spade 10Club 8Heart 5 board and check-alls the 3,696 c-bet. It is an interesting Diamond K turn, with O’Dwyer picking up a pair of kings and he barrels for a larger sizing of 16,000. Akhmetvaleyev makes the call and a Spade 4 comes on the river.

O’Dwyer doesn’t mess around, wanting to shut down the game and he goes all in, with the bet worth 50,000 effective into a 44,000 pot. Akhmetvaleyev tanks for a while and decides there are enough bluffs there to warrant a call. That decision brings the tournament to an end, with superstar O’Dwyer becoming the latest WPT Champion for a score of $135,000. Akhmetvaleyev wins an also impressive $75,000 for finishing runner up.

Steve O’Dwyer – 200,000
