Vitor Coleho Wins WPTDeepStacks Jacksonville Title

Vitor Coelho

Vitor Coelho (pictured) topped a field of 446 entries to win the 2019 WPTDeepStacks Jacksonville Main Event on Monday at bestbet Jacksonville. Coelho earned his first WPTDeepStacks title and $120,419 in first-place prize money along with a $3,000 WPTDeepStacks Championship prize package. The win pushed the Tampa resident’s total career earnings over $1,000,000.

“In my mind, I was going to win this tournament,” Coelho said of his win. “So I was very happy to get it done.”

Coelho stormed to the lead late on Day 2 and came to the final table with nearly a 2,000,000-chip lead over the second place stack. It wasn’t all smooth sailing. As players were eliminated throughout the day, Coelho surrendered the lead to both Tyler Payne and David Jolicoeur.

Once Payne was eliminated in fourth place, Coelho reestablished his lead holding more than half of the chips in play at the three-handed table. Jolicoeur’s time at the top ended with a cold run of cards until Richard Kirsch knocked him out in third place.

The heads-up match saw Kirsch take a small lead before they ran into a flush-over-flush hand. Coelho’s king-high flush was better than Kirsch’s eight-flush to give him a 13,000,000-to-600,000 chip lead. The match was over three hands later and Coelho’s was left holding the trophy at the end of the night.

This was Coelho’s second final table at bestbet Jacksonville after finishing fifth in the first-ever WPT Jacksonville Main Event in 2011. He improved on that performance and he enjoys the room.

“It’s great. I’ve been here before and everybody has been very nice,” Coelho commented after the win. “They have been very accommodating and it was a great three days.”

The former restaurant owner has been playing poker for more than a decade and when asked to describe his playing style, he used one work. Aggressive. That approach means his stack fluctuates but his late tournament run went in the right direction.

“For me, it’s always a rollercoaster because I play different every hand,” he said of his style. “So it’s hard for many of the players to put my on a hand.”

That worked for him during the late stages of the Main Event as he quickly accumulated chips until he found himself at the top. Combined with timely big hands, Coelho cruised to the victory with few bumps along the way. Congratulations to Vitor on claiming his first WPTDeepStacks title!
