Welcome to the Season XVI WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship, coming to your from Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey!

With a $3 million guarantee on the prize pool, an accessible price point of $3,500, and two starting days, the stage is set for another enormous turnout from one of the world’s premier poker venues.

Last season’s WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship attracted a field of 1,312 entries, and it was 29-year-old Daniel Weinman (pictured) winning the event on his birthday for $892,433. Included in Weinman’s prize was a $15,000 seat into the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions. Weinman went on to win that highly prestigious event to close out Season XV and take home $381,500 in first-place prize money and a brand new 2018 Audi S5 Coupe.

Other past champions of this event include Aaron Mermelstein, Gavin Griffin, John Hennigan, and Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi.

The Season XVI WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship comes following the World Poker Tour’s recent trip to South Florida for the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship. That event attracted a field of 911 entries and was won by Darryll Fish for $511,604. With the win, Fish vaulted to sixth place in the Hublot WPT Player of the Year race, but it’s a race that is still Art Papazyan’s to lose as he sits comfortably atop the standings with a lead of 1,000 points thanks to two WPT title victories in Season XVI.

Another interesting storyline to follow involves the WPT Champions Club. So far in Season XVI, the a member of the WPT Champions Club from a prior season has yet to win a title in Season XVI. We’ve only witnessed new faces welcomed in this season, and the last full season this occurred was way back in Season VI. Andy Frankenberger was the latest with a chance to break the streak, but he fell short in third place in the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship.

Once again, the Action Clock, provided by Protection Poker, will be in play once the field reaches one table out of the money. Under the rules of the Action Clock, players will have 30 seconds with each decision for the duration of the tournament, but they will be given a set amount of time extension chips that can be used for additional time if needed.

Day 1a of the Season XVI WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship kicks off at 11 a.m. local time in Atlantic City. Players begin with 30,000 in tournament chips, and the opening day of play will last eight one-hour levels. Players may reenter until the end of Level 10, which is the second level of play on Day 2.
