Why We Need a Clock

Nov 30, 2012

Poker can be unnecessarily slow. Daniel Negreanu and Doyle Brunson are two of the stars who have voiced a positive opinion about the introduction of a clock to speed up the play. Here is a classic example of why this would be such a great idea.

Giacomo Fundaro raises to 10,500 in the cutoff, Sergei Vasilyev three-bets to 27,000 on the button and Fundaro tanks for several minutes. Eventually, the clock is called and it times down to zero before he eventually folds. No drama. No stacks at risk. Nobody all-in. Nadda, nothing, zilch. Just your bog standard every day poker hand that somehow took over five minutes to play out.
