Jun 19, 2021

Wiktor Malinowski has won the first match against Nick Petrangelo in this best-of-three game. Two pivotal hands handed the Polish high stakes regular the win.

In the first important hand, Malinowski opened Heart ASpade 10 for 2,000 in the first level. Petrangelo called with Heart 7Club A and the two saw a flop of Heart 5Diamond 10Spade 2. Petrangelo checked and called Malinowski’s 2,667 continuation-bet. Petrangelo called. The Diamond A hit the turn and Petrangelo checked again. This time, Malinowski overbet for 14,500 into the 9,334 pot. Petrangelo called again before they both checked the Diamond 3 on the river. “Bad card” Malinowski said while he raked in the virtual chips.

Malinowski had the advantage after that hand and sealed the deal in a massive hand not long after. “Limitless,” as Malinowski is known as in the high stakes streets, opened the button for 2,500 with Spade QSpade 9 and Petrangelo three-bet to 12,500 with Diamond 6Diamond 9. Malinowski called in position and a monster flop hit: Diamond 8Heart QDiamond 7. Petrangelo bet 17,500 with his open-ended straight flush draw and Malinowski called with his top-pair and back-door. The Club 3 hit the turn and Petrangelo over shoved for 68,350. Malinowski called and saw a Spade 4 blank on the river to win Match 1.

With this game being a best-of-three, Petrangelo needs to win the next match to keep a chance at progressing to the next round.
