The WPT California Swing is in the home stretch, and the field of contenders is down to just eight players, all of whom are still in the field here at WPT Rolling Thunder.

In order to qualify, players need to have played all three events on the WPT California Swing — the WPT L.A. Poker Classic, the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star, and WPT Rolling Thunder. Players earn points on the leaderboard using the formula that can be found in the official rules.

Of the players that entered all three events, Rainer Kempe has built up a big lead with his 18th place finish at the WPT L.A. Poker Classic and his sixth-place finish at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star (where he was also the last Shooting Star standing).

But Kempe’s lead isn’t safe. Players earn additional points once they reach the money, from 10 points for a min-cash to 168 points for the winner. There are seven players who can still pass Kempe to win the WPT California Swing, though if Kempe cashes, it’ll become that much more difficult.

1.  Rainer Kempe  –  212 pts
2.  Brian Altman  –  115 pts
3.  Kevin MacPhee  –  113 pts
4.  Dean Baranowski  –  100 pts
5.  Charlie Carrel  –  85 pts
6.  Derek Wolters  –  84 pts
7.  Pratyush Buddiga  –  82 pts
8.  Mohsin Charania  –  65 pts

In addition to the title of WPT California Swing Champion, the winner will receive the following prizes during next season’s WPT California Swing:

1.  During the 2018 WPT L.A. Poker Classic, the winner will receive up to six nights of complimentary accommodation at the Commerce Casino’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, and complimentary airport transfer from LAX or Burbank Airport.

2.  During the 2018 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star, the winner will be awarded Shooting Star status, and receive complimentary accommodation of up to $1,000 in value to attend the event.

3.  During the 2018 WPT Rolling Thunder, the winner will receive up to five nights of accommodation, plus a $500 food and beverage credit for use during the event.

We will continue to track the WPT California Swing leaderboard throughout this event as the contenders get deeper and deeper into this event.
